Girl expelled for writing story about killing teacher. I plan on someday doing a piece based on compiled stories in this theme. Let’s face it, in reality schools suck. It isn't all the school system's fault, though. She could have been a mindless zombie, like they wanted. Why, oh why didn't she take the blue pill?

Just started reading The Emperor's New Mind, by Roger Penrose. I'm at chapter one and I've already got problems with what he is saying. I really wish I could have a quick conversation to clear up some of the glaring logical and structural issues these kinds of books always have. Does he really believe this? Is it just an oversimplification for the drooling masses of respectable scientists? One quick conversation over a cup of coffee could clear this all up. So, Mr. Penrose, call me. 'K?

"Out of the Matrix" is an article on philosophy from the Boston Globe's website. Excuse my ego, but both points of view are wrong (as I see it). Things being "really real" (a Descartes view) is as stupid as "we have to have a great many true beliefs before we can have any false ones" (a Davidson view). Both assume that the observer could, at some unspecified time, check their answers.

They have the best ideas I've seen yet in AI (best being ideas that I already have and agree with, of course). :)

They just updated the "News" section of their website, so at least the group is still alive and functional (to some extent).

Well, this sounds cool, until you realize that it has no intelligence to it. All responses would have to be pre-programmed, at least at some level. Would it not make more sense to program a system that learns how to interact with users?
